HIPERWALL: Changing All the Rules for Video Wall Performance & Design
Ultra High Resolution. Scalable Size. Software Solution and Commodity Hardware. Hiperwall is a revolutionary, quantum leap in how we design video walls and administer multiple sources of content. Hiperwall software allows you to build virtually any size and configuration video wall using commodity components for displays, CPU's and the network. Most importantly, Hiperwall software is easy to use and administer, requiring only basic computer skills. |
ARCHITECTURE: Distributed network, easy to design and deploy..
Hiperwall was originally developed at UCI's Institute for Telecommunications and Information Technology, Hiperwall has emerged from an academic visualization research project and is now offered for video wall applications. |
Reduced Complexity: Hiperwall employs easy to understand distributed network architecture, greatly reducing design time and increasing scalability of video wall sizes and configurations.
Easy Display Configuration with Commodity PC's. Video walls are constructed in a manner such that each display has its own connected PC. The PC can either be integrated into the display or external. The Hipewall display version of the software is installed on each of these PC's and they are connected to a Gigabit ethernet switch. |
A Controller PC is used to manage how all content is displayed on the wall. The size and location of each object, including functions like rotation, transparency and more, are managed here.
Forces of Nature: the "Perfect" Storm.64 megapixels of multi-source Satellite weather data is fed into the Calit2 Hiperwall, allowing high definition study of Cyclone Gonu on the coasts of Iran and Oman on a 220 megapixel video wall. Weather researchers are able to group multiple high resolution data source for comparative study. |
A Sender PC is an ordinary CPU that "sends" constantly updated copies of their screen images to the wall.
Medical Imaging and Analysis. Physicians view progress of bone remodeling on a high definition, 220 megapixel wall. Study and research is enhanced by bringing a full pattern of progression to view and eliminating traditional "slide-swapping" on light boxes.
Left: 220 megapixel, 5 x 11 video wall uses Hiperwall to manipulate positioning and size of graphics, video and streaming data without source modifications, making the transition from desktop to wall seamless. Graphics, video and streaming "objects" can be placed in any location on the wall through the controller PC, overlapping bezels, with or without compensation, as well as have attributes such as transparency and rotation adjusted. |
The Hiperwall Display application is on each
PC's with Hiperwall Sender software are attached to the network and called "sender nodes" These can be a variety of workstation types and locations as long as they are connected to the subnet. |

Software Solution Eliminates Specialized Servers, Matrix Switches and Distribution Amplifiers. Hiperwall uses a distributed network architecture to reduce complexity, cost and cable clutter while delivering advanced capabilities. |
Streaming nodes" are established by installing Hiperwall Streaming software on a PC and connecting to the streaming source.
Hiperwall software runs on commodity PC's and a simple Gigabit switch, providing a solution that is display agnostic, PC agnostic and network agnostic. This yields a system much less expensive than comparable wall solutions. |

Scaleable Solutions. High Performance and Capabilities. Display combinations of objects or source types and manipulate without source modifications.
Multiple content sources for still images and ultra-high resolution images, video and HD video, streaming and HD streaming content are transmitted to the wall configuration by "sender" PC's attached to the subnet. All content is conveyed to the wall without any changes in the original code or configuration of the sources. Because Hiperwall is based on a distributed network, video wall sizes and configuration are scaleable and not restricted by hardware or software limitations. |
The Hiperwall configuration is easy to understand and design because requirements for specialized PC's, graphics cards, distribution amplifiers and switches are eliminated. Commodity component minimums allows simplified network design and scaleability not afforded by other solutions. |

Simple User Interface. Designed for non-technical users, the Hiperwall interface is highly intuitive yet powerful. |
||||
Many applications, such as command and control, are commonly administered by multiple users. Video wall user training often requires extensive training time and experience to use. Designed to be used by the average non-technical user and easy to learn, Hiperwall software greatly reduces training time and costs. |
